2. The Ditch
3. Alpha 7 Quarantine
4. Burial Mounds
5. Open Palms
6. Sung Island
7. The Wilderness
8. Finns Revenge
Personally I also like Thermo, and Tabula Rasa Wish Tabula was 15x15.
But its got at least 8 great maps. Suppose _Pink you have a definition for great maps, considering you've made a grand total of 0 of your own maps.|||Rasa is a pretty good map.
i prefer Shade for map topology better, but it's got one-too-many mass deposits.|||Yeah I just thought Pink's comment on maps was stupid thats all. Setons clutch has more games played that all the maps in Demigod combined are likely to see.
Granted I dont want to ramble without much experience, haven't played Demigod, learned my lesson with Wardell's franchises, wait until the final version of the game before playing, otherwise you get unfinished or feature shallow products.
My understanding is the maps are akin to 5x5 or 10x10 maps in Supcom, and really the strategy takes a back seat to tactics on those, from the in game videos I've seen, a lot of the actual strategy is in choosing research and unit attributes during the flow of battle.
When I see a player flipping between that and the flashy renders of the action I kinda think yuck. Question why they didn't just have a small mini-map sized chart of the same thing you have to click into and select with? Would make it easier to watch the progress and monitor without taking your face off the battles.
The idea that there aren't good maps in SC or FA is bull.|||Lol using setons as an example? That map used to be good the way stairway to heaven used to be good. Now I switch the radio on the first note. **** setons, only unimaginative noobs play it constantly. The only thing worse than that is thermapfail.|||some of the best maps are 3p maps :)|||Choke point maps are the result of the boiling down of what RTS has become. Real time tactical. Routing 99% of either sides fighting forces thought a 1x1 KM area in Setons it's not the maps fault, its the fact that they changed the dynamics of the game in SC to FA.
No longer is base building and securing important as in SC, in FA its about mass securing, and map domination.
In FA its critically necessary to secure the middle, the early mass, and then to secure a checkpoint so that an invasion doesn't break through, usually involving an experimental rush either following a T1/T2/T3 rack up or a spearheading one.
Thermo just takes that chokepoint to the next level, players also start with more MEX locations and commonly artificial rules are introduced such as no air or building on the top plateaus. As for map design, the underlying design is subpar and the texturing, polish is awful, however the actual gameplay, seems to stimulate a lot of the community.
Call it unskilled, fine. Its radically different than ranked, but custom has always been about fun and not about skill.
I like Thermo because of the variety of strategies used, is limited, and so is the end result, Rush me if you can is even more refined and on the same type of design. Chokepoint is the determining factor of victory.
On setons you have the ability to get past that though too, by using air transport assaults but the size of the map and general need for more resrouces in the middle preclude players from making massive transport attacks. Which is why its interesting.
Larger maps are more interesting and varied. Setons is one of the best maps because against two dynamic, skilled, and varied opponents, teams must combine use of air land and sea, they must also generally win all 3 as well in order to assure victory. Its also a good map in that its not too large.
